For over 50 years, Wylde Audio® has been creating some of the most iconic and cutting-edge musical instruments and audio equipment in the industry. Our passion for innovation, quality craftsmanship, and commitment to our artists and fans has made us a leader in the music world.
Our History

Wylde Audio® was founded in 1965 by Joe Wylde, a luthier and guitarist obsessed with building the perfect guitar. Based out of a small workshop in Los Angeles, Joe experimented with different tonewoods, neck profiles, pickups, and hardware to create guitars with unmatched playability and tone.
Word of Joe’s hand-built guitars soon spread among LA’s music community. The unique look, feel and sound of his instruments caught the attention of local musicians and touring acts alike. Orders started pouring in for Joe’s custom-made guitars and business was booming.
In the 1970s, Wylde Audio® expanded into mass production to meet demand. We opened a state-of-the-art factory using the latest technologies while maintaining Joe’s hands-on craftsmanship and attention to detail. The newly streamlined production allowed us to build guitars with greater efficiency without sacrificing quality.
Wylde Audio® guitars were now being sold in music stores across the country. Our instruments were becoming ubiquitous in the exploding rock and roll scene of the 70s and 80s. Legends like Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, and Slash all used Wylde guitars to shape the sound of rock as we know it.
In the 90s, Wylde Audio® branched out into manufacturing amplifiers and effects pedals. We applied the same rigorous design philosophy and hands-on testing to create amps and pedals purpose-built for professional use. Players loved the authentic tube tones and reliability of our amplifiers combined with the rich harmonics and responsive controls of our pedals.
Today, Wylde Audio® is still based out of our custom shop in LA where a team of skilled luthiers build guitars by hand. Our expansive factory churns out instruments using both old-world craftsmanship and modern technologies. After over 50 years, our commitment to building the world’s greatest guitars, amps, and pedals is stronger than ever.
